Sorry if this has been answered but I tried searching and found no post... So I got a 03 wolfsburg. Runs great . Every now and then it won't start and the Epc light is on. After a few minutes starts up fineand no light.its starting to happen more often. Had my mechanic run diagnostics. No codes..... And yes he's a bona fide vw mechanic.. not some " all make and model" guy. So should I be worried? Any ideas what's up? I got a closet full of upgrades waiting. bout 3k so far. Don't wanna put them on if cars getting ready to die? So ya sorry so long but input would be greatly appreciated. And before someone says post pics or it doesn't exist... I m posting from my phone won't let me... Thanks in advance

doing a quick "jetta epc light" search on google returns a few different possibilities. one was MAF which vicky indicated, apparently didn't work for the dud when he changed it. two was a beetle with a brake sensor recall which is a $14 part from the dealership and a write up was done. three was the ignition switch. so there are a few difference in opinions there.

i'm not even sure what the epc light indicates but that google search may get you started if you can relate to some of the symptoms. gl. give us the updates.

EDIT: dude replaced ignition switch and cleaned battery posts and seems to have fixed it. check your coils (coil packs) also see if they need to be replaced. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthre...ting-in-and-out-Electrical-cutting-in-and-out

Thanks ill look into the maf. I did look on Google lol. Everyone's talk about limp mode or light staying on. Curious my ac just went out like a few hours ago. Could a blown fuse trigger the Epc? I just had the whole system replaced. All brand new oem parts too. Sorry to be such a newb but anything past obd1 is foreign to me.

Well, if you clean the MAF and that does not work, I would replace the cheaper parts first to see if that fixes it (what s4dlite suggested), then if not, try switching MAF's with a buddy. I wouldn't go out and replace the MAF right away because they are pretty spendy, and if it didn't fix it I know I'd be pissed haha.

Hello, first post. Found this thread searching and this seemed to be the closest that I could find to my issue. I have a 2001 Jetta 2.0 that I've had for a couple of weeks, the EPC light came on a few days ago. Once it came it on the starter would not engage/crank however, I can get the car started by push starting it and the EPC light goes off. The car drives fine while running but once I turn it off, the EPC light comes back on and no go with the starter again. Any ideas? I took it to a shop and they just called and said the system is reporting all kinds of errors and they think it's the harness or possibly the computer itself. My plan is to take it to get a second opinion but I figured I may as well ask the VW community. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks,
b

from another forum:

"Coil packs. One bad and another on its way and apparently some damage to the wiring on the bad one, didn't get too many details as he was completely swamped. There was a bad fuse [check the fuel pump fuse], probably blown either by the coil pack or somewhere in the process of disconnecting the battery/jumping it when it didn't need to be. Thanks for all the help guys, so glad to have my baby back"

so there's some info that may help
