hi i have a 2000 jetta gls vr6 im having a weird problem with my coolant. The other day after i drove home from work and parked before i shut my car off i saw my coolant temp drop from 190 all the way to the first notch out of nowhere really quickly. I shut it off and looked at the reservoir and it seemed to be at the level it should be the next day i start up the car and get a coolant warning light and look to see and all my coolant is pretty much gone without a puddle under my car. I previously repaired a couple coolant leaks one on the thermostat housing and the other two were from the hoses that went to the heater core on the firewall. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to start looking?

no i havent is there any specific place on the crackpipe that would be most prone to errr cracking? lol and wouldnt these two cause a puddle to form under my car? also what would explain my coolant temperature dropping so rapidly?that has me really worried. The heater core hoses were an easy fix the thermostat housing on the other hand was annoying.

Did you change your thermostat itself? Well, the crackpipe is tricky to check, you'd have to take apart the thermostat housig and more, it's quite a way back there. Water pump will be easier, on the passanger side of the block, if its bad you'll be able to see some coolant on the top of you splash guard, around the water pump pulley etc. When my water pump failed it didn't leave a puddle under my car because it was pooling on the splash guard.

yeah i replaced the entire housing as well as the thermostat itself only thing i really kept was the coolant temp sensor since its a green top. The thermostat housing itself connects to one end of the crackpipe doesnt it? im pretty sure i saw it when i replaced the thermostat housing or was that something else? and i think my splashguard is missing actually if your talking about the one under the oilpan

Sounds like when my water pump went. Drive it around and get it good and warm. After that park it and see if anything drips (except the A/C of course). When my water pump went I could drive it and see it dripping from the splash guard. Just make sure that you don't use water in the coolant, I hear it's not good on the water pump seal.

The water pump is fairly easy to change, if you have the know how I would do it yourself and save yourself about $400. I spent about $60 IIRC on the water pump with metal impellers and a new pulley, did the install in a day. Theres a write up on the 'tex I can get for you if you're interested in doing it.

I would check your oil as well and maybe do a compression test to be sure you dont have a blown head gasket and thats why your not seeing any coolant leak. Also, do the waterpump yourself. If you have any problems, vixen, myself, or a few other people on here can help you through it no prob.
