I dunno if there's enough of you guys out there who are interested in lifting/working out/endurance training, but I got bored and figured I'd make a thread where we can discuss different workouts, routines, tips, suppliment reviews, etc.
So I guess I'll start. I try to workout twice a day, 5 days a week. I'll do about an hour and a half - two hours of lifting, and come back later in the day and do cardio for about an hour. It's kinda rough with my school schedule, but I've recently made a career change, and for me, weight training is no longer just a hobby, but a necessity lol. Diet is also pretty important to me now... Staying in shape wise. I can build strength with a crappy diet lol but keeping the spare tire off is all in what I eat (atleast for me). So is drinking alotta water... But in building my deltoid (shoulder) strength, I've kinda run into a brick wall..... I do shoulder press, free weight fly lifts, reverse flys for rear delts, and all with heavy weight.. But I can't build them for shit lol. Anybody got any tips or other exercises you use for delts?

I have become a little of a health freak haha. And grew up with a family of health freaks, mother was a P.E. teacher/physical therapist/. I use to work out twice a day, the opposite of what your doing now boost! Woke up and went for a hour run. Then at the end of the day lifted for 2 hours. I moved out this recently to go to college and my time during the week was killed by classes. So I can only work out once a day now. At night I go lift for an hour then run for a hour.
Some things that come to mind if your trying to build your delts is the delts are and assist of your pectoralis major. So benching, low reps, high weight is something to try. Also you can to lat pulls, this indirectly works your delts. I can find a few work outs that focus on the deltoids if you want to try some, I have a few books and resources over here.

Boost,
don't know if this will help but check out this site it has a lot of exercises for shoulders and other parts of the body. maybe you just need to do different exercises. i have always been told that your body gets used to certain exercises and can have trouble building muscle unless you change up exercises. i could be wrong but hopefully it will help. http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercise...d/12/shoulders

And for lats, I do 5 sets of as many full extension pullups as I can do (palms forward, widegrip), 4 sets, 8 reps of 160 lbs on the lat pulldown machine (Cable/pullys), and standing extended straight arm pulldowns on that same machine, 60 pounds, 4 sets of as many reps as I can do before total failure. At the same time, my max shoulder press is with 65 pound dumbells, usually 6 or 7 reps for 2 sets before I gotta drop in weight. So as you can see.... They're definitly not in proportion, strength wise, to their ''helper'' muscles lol. Quote:

im pretty into weight lifting, nothin crazy but I need to get big and strong for my career seeing as Im majoring in criminal justice and then becoming a sheriff.
I find with lats and delts, genes have alot to do with it. I know guys who constantly destroy their lats and they arent big at all, other guys hardly touch their lats and their huge. kinda depends on the person. I like to do super sets with lats so I can totally destroy the muscle. a set of dumbbell raises, then right to smith machine barbell raises. as for delts, you could keep doing all of the same exercises but try doing drop sets with each and see how they respond to that.

But YO! I'm doing criminal justice/criminal investigation starting next year, and I'll be going into the NYS Trooper Academy. So we're on the same level lol. Fitness for me went from hobby to requirement. Which is great cause I love being in shape. Any legit excuse to hit the gym is a good one for me!

hell yea bro, I love it soo far, Im currently going to The University of Toledo, I will be a senoir next year, then its off to an academy. I can't WAIT!
Yea I view being in shape as a requirement. I HATE seeing overweight or scrawny peace officers. thats like my biggest pet peeve. I think it should be a job requirement to be at a certain fitness level. but thats just my opinion.

Nah I agree with ya man lol. I think we have regular PE tests though, like the Army has. Every couple months you gotta pass certain tests like 40 pushups in a minute, a mile and a half in 10.5 minutes, etc. Not sure though...
I could pass all that shit right now lol but I wanna be ready for the kinda shit I'll have to be put though, ya know?

I'd LOVE to do SWAT or DEA work... I'm a total team guy lol. I like working with other people and getting that tight knit family bond, ya know? But that'll probably depend on the REAL family status lol.
SWAT definitly goes through my mind cause I always wanted to be in the Army Infantry, then try and get to SF, but a number of things lead me to stray from the Military, but for good reason. But yeah.. I just really love to challenge myself, physically and mentally, and if you throw in some danger and good cause.... It seems almost unfair that I'd be getting paid to do something I love so much lol.

thats ausome man, yea i think im gonna eventually go into something specialized, not sure what yet tho, DEA would be sweet, or like ATF would be cool too. there is soo much you can do and it all sounds soo much fun.
but like you said, about that time i will be dealing with a family so it will all depend on that.

K I'm gonna pull a Chris and ask a question that isn't related to this thread at all haha.
So you went from doing mechanic work to wanting to be a cop?? So you aren't doing the shop stuff anymore or what?

So now, most auto engineering jobs are sitting behind a desk, earning shit for benefits and pension, with an average pay of $62K... Not starting, AVERAGE. Which blows considering the schooling for this shit is almost $52/year for 4 years. But jobs are more competitive now, and still unstable. So I looked into being a trooper a while back... someone I know mentioned it (they knew I loved the military) and come to find out, they get AMAZING benefits, retirement is set, job securety is basically 100%, and pay is pretty damn good.. While in the academy, I get paid on a $50K salary. Upon graduation, you get $70, and after 5 years you get $90... With over time, you're reaching $100K. My time in the auto school hasn't been wasted cause I still love cars oviously, you NEED a atleast a 2 year degree to get into the academy (in anything), and you need to be 21 to get in... So I would have had to do something anyway, and it'd probly still been this. Phew... ok I'm done now lol.

You mean just raises? Holding the weights by your side, then raising straight outwards towards the ceiling and back down? If so, I do those lol

I used to be somewhat of an exercise freak. Working out everyday (running and toning, not so much building muscle mass haha) and then on top of that I was super active in sports.
Then I started partying hahaha.

I dunno I have this crazy theory that beer isn't really THAT bad for you when it comes to fitness. As long as you drink enough water to flush the alcohol and misc toxins from your blood afterwords, beer is just carbohydrates... but also contains a lot of Vitamin B's which activate your metabolism... Which is part of the reason a buffet looks like a gold mine when you're shitfaced off brew lol. As long as I don't eat alotta junk while drinking beer..... I never get fat gains.

so my shoulder has been bothering me for about a month now. mostly when i sleep on it but occasionally when i work out. some exercises seem to re-aggravate it. ive tried giving it a few days here and there to heal up but today i went to the gym and did chest and i was doing flat bench with dumbells and i felt a pop and just dropped the weights. i asked doug, one of the trainers, and he said i most likely tore my rotator cuff. sweet.
