Default **MKIV Head and Tail light noob guide**

**MKIV Head and Tail light Noob Guide**

So you need to spruce up the look of your Jetta? Do boring old red tail lights and lame headlights have you down in the dumps? Well Look no further! Depending on what you are looking for, skip to the appropriate section below!

**Tail Lights**
This section will explain your options when searching for those perfect tail lights. First off, you do not want any lights that look like this. AT ALL. They are ugly and more often than not they are poorly made.

Here are some of the great tails floating around in the VW world:
The red and clear tails, or "Candy Cane Tails"

GLI tail lights; essentially a smoked version of the candy cane tail lights. Usually more expensive, as they are very popular.

Smoked tail lights, made by Hella

Smoked crystal tails

And if you are short on cash, VHT Nightshades is always an option. Basically its spray tint in a can. It also allows you to be more creative with your tails.

A DIY can be found here: Click me! (its done on a GTI, but its the exact same process)

**HEAD LIGHTS**

Now Onto Headlights. Again, I'll start off by showing you what not to get.

YOUR CAR IS NOT AN AUDI OR A BMW. DO NOT buy these crappy Ebay lights.

The most common aftermarket headlights for our cars are E-codes (or european-code), and OEM HID's.

E-code headlight

A common mod to do if you are short on cash is the Joey mod. Basically you paint the inside of your headlights black to give your car a different look, like so:

A DIY can be found for that here: Click me!

Here are some OEM HID headlights. These run a large sum of money, but I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Need a place to buy one or more of these great products? Check out this dealer reputation thread to find the best places to shop: Click me!

If you have any comments, questions or concerns, feel free to post, but keep it ON TOPIC.

Haha thanks. I felt like there were so many instances of people wasting money on crap headlights that I'd throw something together.

I think i'm still going to pick up a set new already blacked out headlight fixtures as they come with the fogs and i don't have fogs currently. That's a great write up though, thanks for the info!
