Default new golf R v.s. Previous R32's

So the new Golf R (replacing the R32) was announced, and eurotuner did a piece on it: http://www.eurotuner.com/news/eurp_1...f_r/index.html

Seems cool enough, but I feel like the whole exclusive feeling of having an R32 is kinda dissapearing. I don't have one, but it must feel pretty cool to have one. And it just seems like they made it pretty bland. they even ditched the large VR6 engine. It looks like a new GTI with a cool color and a little bit different styling (rear bumper, muffler). even the interior is boring now. they just slapped an R symbol on stuff and called it good. the seats aren't even different than the GTI.

(GTI interior for reference : http://www.cartype.com/pics/6149/sma...gti_in2_09.jpg)

and once again all the cool DSG and DCC options are only available in europe :/

who knows, maybe im just over reacting. But i wish they'd try maybe a BIT harder.

I wouldnt say over reacting. Letters and numbers put together for a name like R32 just sounds exclusive alone, no matter from the big engine, better looks and options. Maybe they where tired of people just swapping the setup into their Jettas (fun times!) and Golfs that they just decided to let it go.

Never liked that we miss out on DSG's and other coolio euro gadgets. What makes them so special?! rofl, no really, we are a paying market, we want the same kind of options we can get anywheres else. Trying to get the swaps from Europe and making it work would be just a silly amount of money and work to do.

The interior, updated yes, but still kind of seems conformingisty. Maybe its to spread the high quality all around, who knows what goes on at Wolfsburg. But in the end, the whole line has a fresh new look that Im totally enjoying right now.

270 horse vs 210 in the GTI

All wheel drive vs front

DSG blows... Stick FTW. Also has the O2Q 6 speed trans with a true 6th gear reducion

Much more tunability than the VR6

Interiors have been cheapened since 2005 with the first MKV GTI's where VW found they were actually TOO good (too expensive to build) so all interior qualities went downhill.

IMO, they're trying to compete with the Evolution and STI.

A) that is very debatable (stick versus newer shifting systems)

B) i know what you mean about interiors going downhill. My 2000 jetta's automatic windows roll up on their own, and my moms 2006 camry doesnt hahaha

dont think ill ever own a r32. They build them up to be so sacred and the parts, mostly body work, is so expensive, id never want to touch it. There isnt much flare in the r32 groups. You see a line of them and no one has touched the body. Its whos lower, who has the more expensive rims, and who DOESNT have 32 blue or black. Wheres the fun in that. I feel like im at suby meets all over again. engine swap, or go home r series.

I agree with you ryan. i like these kind of R32 owners:

they aren't garage queens and They aren't afraid to use their car and customize it like that guy.

You make a good point about expensive body work, and components. And it costs ~5k less for a fully loaded to the brim GTI, which in my opinion looks alot cooler than the R.

i dont think thats flat...There is gloss on that thing. Look at the rook, rear pillar and front fender. That thing might just be pure salt ha. I cant tell. Plus this supports my statement. Most of the Rs in AMERICA, arent doin it right. I mean i hope to see it i really do. Its a great platform. I just saw it better as a IV and just think maybe they should let it fade out. Are the sales explosive or anything?

are sales of the Golf R explosive? I dont think you can buy it yet. All i know is that its been announced and confirmed for the VW line up, and will fall in the 32-38k price range.
