Default Slowly but surely build thread

**UPDATED 03/14/2010**

I enjoy seeing progress in other people's rides and watching them get better and better, so i figured i'd throw up my own little build thread with updates and stuff so i didnt have to post multiple little threads saying " i installed this, i did that!"...So here we go!

2000 Jetta GLS 2.0L

Here is the day i got the car:

Heres the car in its current state:

Done:
-Replaced front bumper
-Badgeless Grille
-All red tail lights
-Amber bumper and fender markers
-Black rear emblem
-HoundsTooth Interior pieces (front door cards, sunroof motor cover, armrest)
-42DDesigns red LED dome+map lights kit
-SCM
-New gas cap (drove away without putting the cap back on : P)
-Sony Xplod stereo(its overdue for an upgrade though)
-20th door lock pins
-Koni sport springs (~1.8 inch drop)
-Black gloss engine cover
-Stubby antenna
-polished headlights
-brushed aluminum inside door handles
-Black interior pieces

On the UPS Truck

Chores(subject to change):
-Joey mod headlights
-Paint calipers
-Black headliner and pillars
-Leather seats
-new door cards
-Fill hood notch or slight angry boser
-Trunk liner
-New wheels
-4motion lip skirts and valance
-Window Tint
-New sterero
-Sub, speakers and amp
-New Windshield
-20th steering wheel
-Fix rear left window (wont roll down)
-Clean engine and bay
-replace spark plugs
-Polish or paint engine components (intake manifold, plastic bits, caps, all that)
-Ansa Silverline or Eurosport exhaust
-AutoTech 260 Cam
-Neuspeed Supercharger or a turbo kit
-forest green or T-red paint with textured rub strips, or just a respray
-Front end swap!!! (gettas just look so much more natural IMO)
-buy an MKII

None of this is set in stone, or in order. except for the purchase an MKII

So ill post regular updates of whatever i do in here, Cn'C welcome and appreciated. bash it or love it, whatev!

Latest Update:
Sold my smoked bumper lights and black fender lights to Trevor and I'm going to purchase some euro amber fender lights!

AS FOR HOUNDSTOOTH...

my two year old niece kept stroking it...

Armrest:

Motor cover thingy:

So overall it turned out awesome i think. I was really scared that it would be retarded like i do before all mods and projects, but it went fine. i really recommend this to people. it makes my car feel different without being too "unique". quality, not quantity.

My 20th door pins should get here monday or tuesday along with my springs bearings and bushings, ill be sure to update!

I really can't decide what to do with the remaining fabric. i don't have enough to do door cards, i got the last yard in stock, hopefully she'll get some more. But on the other hand, i didnt use even 1/4 of the fabric, and i wanna do more, just cant decide what to do it on! seats are out of the question, as i plan on getting leather seats, so that would be a waste.

any ideas?

P.S. thanks for all the compliments guys and gals! i highly recommend this to anyone. the whole thing cost 25 dollars. thats the cloth shipped, the glue spray and a new razor blade.

It'd be baller if there was a way to do the steering wheel in that pattern... Just the wheel and connecting parts... Not the actual airbag assembly.

I was actually thinking of doing this, but then i remembered im trying to find a 3 spoke steering wheel. i think i might just do some door cards this weekend.

UPDATE
Got my 20th door pins, they look pretty good. and all 4 for 25 shipped wasnt too bad either, compared to just a set of 2 costing ~30 dollars. My camera Died while i was at Sonic (cruisin in the 1966 ford fairlane, 396 big block V8 ) so ill post up some pics tomorrow.

Heres a stock photo of what they look like:

Also, sport springs, bushings and bearings get here tomorrow, ill throw some pics up. I gotta rent a spring compressor from autozone and then my bro and i will take wednesday off from work to put them on, joey mod the headlights also.

Springs SPRINGS SPRINGS!

So...2 broken vice grips, 2nd degree burns from hot rubber, bent screw drivers, a big gash on my foot, and 45 dollars for a spring compressor kit and a snapped sway bar bolt last later i have...1 SPRING ON! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

if we had a freakin impact gun this wouldnt be too hard. we have the gun but the air compressor is at the bike shop. Our first mistake was starting with the front. suspension is a pain. we finally pried the 2nd strut out at like 1:30am and called it quits for the night. So hopefully after a good nights sleep we can work this crap off. if we can get this one last nut off that has broken 2 vice grips then it will be smooth sailing from here. appearently the back is way easier.

Pics:
MMMMM Konis...

The Goods:

Torqued to 74ft lbs. yeah right.

Thats all for now, HOPEFULLY i can post finished pics up tomorrow. wish me luck!

Well I was gonna tell you to do your shiftboot but I realized your are is an automatic lol.

Everything looks good so far, nice work. I would have went with Koni coilovers as opposed to springs, but something is better than nothing, right?

FINISHED!! 16 hours of work total. One of the struts was blown so we raced to schucks and got one, lasssssst one in stock! got icecream cones, and after putting it all back together 3 times, we got it right. third time's the charm i guess : p The backs took 10 minutes total. the other 15 hours and 50 minutes were spent on the front.

But overall, it looks great. And the handling, ohhhhhhh boy it drives so much better, i cant even describe it. We went out on the highway and tore it up, it was great. there no more forward pitch when braking hard or soft, and no bounce at all.

When we got it all on and set, about a 1 inch drop all around, everyone says they drop another 1/2 to 2/3 inch after a couple weeks, so im really excited. We are gonna wash it tomorrow real good and ill throw up some pics.

My shifter has a 1 2 and 3 on it, dont hate lol. and coilovers cost $$$ that i dont have, and i wasnt looking to slam, just want a small lowering and improved handling. But yes, something is defintely better than nothing!

Thanks for the luck, we needed it. AND THIS MOD IS IN NO WAY EASY. we had to rip off a piece of the subframe and the passenger side strut barely made it out. we monster garaged it up with the dremal alot too. This mod would be impossible without two people lol if i didnt have my brother in law i would have gave up and cried in a corner

And to anyone who wanted info or pics on the fairlane, i posted up a thread called 'that fairlane feeling" in DA HAUS. ill answer any questions there.

P.S. i got an AWESOME flip flop tan.

Man, that sounds horrible. But I am no stranger to the world of hard work on cars.

Anyone ever replaced the fuel and brake lines on a car before? Yeah...not fun.

Good to hear you got everything done though man, can't wait to see it!

Well as promised, here are some pics! they are uploaded from an iphone, so they are crappy quality. my internet is down so sorry but something is better than nothing!

my brother in law is pissed my car is lower than his : p

it used to be like a fist gap, now i can barely fit two fingers, and after about 3 weeks it will settle even more! i MIGHT be getting some TSW Volcanoes for a steal of 400 and my sister has some tires from her mazda3speed she'll let me have for free, so it will look even better. but who knows.

P.S. i got my stubby antenna, ill throw up a pic of it later.

Thanks, I'm happy with how it turned. It's about 1 inch so far. I've talked to others with the same setup and they say it will drop another half to a full inch after a week or two.

Where did you get the 42DDesigns red LED dome+map lights kit?

And also are those new lock pins easy to install?

You can get the led light kit at the 42draft designs website haha. And the door pins took like 2 minutes. You just have to be careful because if you screw them the wrong way you can break them or make them go too deep when you lock the car, then you have to take off the whole door panel appearently.

Thanks for the comments guys i'm resly glad with how it turned out!

I think I might order gli tails today, who knows.
