I have a 1992 gas VW Jetta GL. The V-belt which drives the power steering pump has worn out due to a misalignment with the crank shaft pulley. To be properly aligned the pump pulley needs to be roughly a 1/4 inch towards the passenger's side of the car.
In an exploded view of the pump in the Haynes manual for the 1992 Jetta a "spacer" is pictured between the pump and its V-belt pulley. It looks as though this spacer would nicely solve the problem. My mechanic is doubtful of the existence of this spacer as his "parts guy" didn't mention it to him. Can anyone document the existence of this spacer? The Haynes manual says the spacer is "diesel only", not that that matters much to me if it brings the pulleys into alignment.
