I've seen this alot everywhere, I'm sure I'm easily trumped by a lot of you. All miles count no just the ones you've driven. Feel free to share picture of your MKII's here as well!

I recently bought mine with 229k and counting MKII Diesel Coupe, here she is.Click image for larger version

Haven't driven it since last year but it has 310,000 km. Bought the car new in Sept.1991 and sold it to my sister in Sept.2001 with 285,000 km, she kept it for 7 years and only put 22,000 km on it. I put it away for 2 years redid suspension, brakes, tires and polished it up and only put 3000 km on it. Plan on putting some kilometers on it next summer.

It brings a smile to my face knowing an origional owner still has the car and enjoys it still. I've met a few people who are origional owners of diesel golfs and jettas all touching 500,000k.

Just rolled over to 200,00 miles! 1992 Jetta GL 1.8, body's been dinged a few times from previous owners, and she doesn't run perfectly, but I've done okay for maintaining my first car for 4 years on my own. She's been a learning experience.

I got rid of my blue 1996 Jetta. It had around 300K Kms on it, the engine was worn right out, nothing left in her at all. I blew the first engine within 3 days of owing the thing. Got tired of fixing the damn car. Mind you, I did end up putting about 10,000 Kms on it during the time I owned it... Can't complain, the junk yards here are my BEST friends! heheh. By the way, you can re-use head gaskets and head bolts (on beaters), I've done it a few times. I just torque them in 3 steps to 110 fbls. It's worked for me. Just saying.

Picked up (free) this 1985 Jetta, a strut had collapsed and the glow plug fuse was melted. Just hit 549,000 KM with it and it still strong as could be and uses no oil. Going to be selling that one. Amazing car, I went 942 Kms on my last fill up and still had some left in it. I'm quite sure I could have gone over 1000 on a tank full. Wicked car, considering its a 1985! I've put about 3-4000 Kms on it since the repairs.

Bought this 1998 TDI jetta a few days ago off an elderly gentleman at the gym I go to. Paid $200 for this one. 116K original Kms. I have to replace the front passenger side wheel bearing (starting to go) and have 2 codes to solve, P1550 and P0380. Should have it all buttoned up pretty quick.

Sick milage on the 85! Holy hell!

P1550 - Charge Pressure control deviation. Caused alot of the time by excessive carbon build up in the EGR and manifold. You only see this code where there has been serious neglect into checking the condition of build up. Its one of those jobs that isn't really hard to do, but its a dirty one. I fully recomend wearing an old hoody, rubber dish gloves, glasses and a hat! The intake manifold has to come off, aswell as the EGR assembly. Alot of the carbon will come out with a screw driver but you will need a bottle neck brush and some serious cleaner like varsol to get it all off. Last time I did one I used a large and deep rubbermaid bin to do my cleaning in so the workshop didnt look like hell! Do your best to clean it out of the head around the valves too. Use a vacuum cleaner so non of it drops into an open cylinder. With it all back together it will run infinatly better, smoother and way more fuel milage.

P0380- Glow plug heater circut "A" or primary malfunction. Caused by a bad plug, broken wire, or a loose connection.

Thanks CafeRacer. Yeah, I already googled the codes and have a plan of attack in regards to repairs. I'm very systematic with codes, I don't just start replacing parts.

I reset the codes last night and took it for a spin. The engine light stayed off entirely.

When I started it this morning, the light came back on, then was off again on my return trip home.

The car has tons of power, I'm sure both codes are minor fixes. It doesn't really matter anyway, after owning my last one, I can rip these apart and reassemble them with my eyes closed.

The 1985's probably had 5 or 6 timing belts in its life so far. Do the maintenance and these things will go 1 million miles no problem.

Most people are too lazy to even change their oil every 3000 miles. Btw, Mobil 1 is the only oil anybody should use. We've lab tested, NOTHING compares. Word!

    Peace!
