Thread: Loud clicking - engine top end

  1. #1

Default Loud clicking - engine top end

    2005 Jetta 2.0
    46,000 miles

Today, the usual light clicking sound from the engine's top end suddenly became alarmingly loud, like the valve tappets came loose!
The car is due for an oil change - 5,000 miles.
    I use Mobil 1 0W30 synthetic oil.

The car is used primarily for city driving, hardly any freeway travel.

Can this noise be due to the oil change being overdue?

I'm going to do an oil change tomorrow. I'll use Mobil 1 5W30.
I hope it fixes this loud tickiing!
    Thanks for responding

I just did an oil change using Mobil 1 5W30 but the loud clicking did not go away. It sounds like it's the valves on one cylinder. The car idles OK. it is not misfiring.

Anyone with any ideas, or experience with this kind of problems? I can't find any other threads on this subject.

    Thanks.
