Thread: Jetta Sport 1.8T 2016

    Default Jetta Sport 1.8T 2016

I had Jetta's back in the 90's. Right now I found a Jetta sport left over well equipped with an automatic trans. I am coming out of a Ford with a problematic DCT.. Is this a decent car..anything to look for? What automatic trans is VW using now? Thanks for any comments. MJB

First off welcome to jj, be is currently using the DSG trans in anything that is automatic, it's a good trans with little issues I've seen from them, so far on the 1.8tsi motors haven't seen any one big issue come into the shop

If it is a DSG it will have "DSG" embossed on the shift knob.

Tiptronic is the term used to let the driver override the automatic mode when the shift lever is moved to a second shift gate.

They do differentiate between Tiptronic, and DSG, as most call the DSG a Gearbox, as it is basically an automated manual transmission.

    "be"?

When you see the trim levels, when the TDI was available, they read:
    2016 Jetta:
    1.8T Sport - 6-speed Automatic w/ Tiptronic
TDI (all trim levels) - 6-Speed DSG Automatic w/Tiptronic.

They differentiate between the two automatics.

The 2016 GLI is Manual or DSG.

They don't show a DSG option for the 1.8T, Sport, SEL or SEL Premium, only the TDI
actually says DSG. They did make and ship the 2016 TDIs, and when the scandal
    broke, they were quarantined.

Oh, and I see how you did "be", you were one key over from "vw"

Still, not everything automatic is coming with DSGs.

    Thanks---yes it is a tiptronic---not a dsg---so a typical torque converter I presume===not a dual clutch...hmmmm

Right, I don't think you can order the Jetta gasser with a DSG, unless it's a GLI.
All the TDIs come with DSGs now for Automatics. So yeah, you have a torque
converter trans, "slush-box" they call it...

Should still have a lot of get-up and go.
