Question Running fan after turning the car off?

I went outside to "re-park my car".. The Wolf (09, Jetta Wolfsburg 2.0T DSG) is a lot bigger than my last car and I have issues getting it into my parking spot sometimes LOL.. Whatever..

It was 104 degrees outside, I turned the car on.. reversed.. drove forward (got into the spot this time) and turned the car off and got out. There is this fan that was humming away under the hood for about 5 minutes while I stood there pressing the lock button on the unlocker.. it stopped finally, and I went inside...

the big question: What the heck was it?!

    Any ideas?

Its still running because the engine is still too hot, I have an 02 1.8T, does it on excruciatingly hot days too, runs for a bit and will turn off automatically. No trouble so don't worry about it man

From what I have understood from my research is that fan is not only to cool the motor, but also cool the turbo after a hot shutdown. Because on some turbo cars you would have to either let the car idle before shuting it down or drive it under 2000rpms a 1/2 mile before stoping. Thank germen manufactureing for not having to do that.

my 2.5L did it once.. can't reproduce it, it does it for some specified reason and i can't figure it out.

it did it when it was 30 degrees outside..

    i don't have a turbo.

still heard the buzzing after the car was off.

Most newer vehicles have a fan that continues to run after the vehicle has been turned off to help cool the engine and remove the heat from the engine. Both of my VWs do this. It's normal.
